I am also refereeing a match at the Junior Ryder Cup at Blairgowrie GC on the 23rd September. Created in 1997, The Junior Ryder Cup is recognised as a platform for the golfing stars of tomorrow with players such as Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy and Hunter Mahan having played in past contests.

2013, a recap of my year.....

posted 14 Oct 2013, 13:10 by Nicola Melville   [ updated 26 Oct 2013, 03:30 ]

Well, since the season has nearly come to an end I thought I should write a little post about my very busy 2013 year.

Back in January I helped to start up the Scottish Ladies Open Tour, along with Colin Farquharson. I ran a series of 13 one day events plus a Tour Championship, which started back in April and finished in October. We had over 80 different players at our events, many came from all over the country and I learned a lot about running golf events from the experience.

With the PGA I refereed at four Europro Tour events along with three other PGA National ones and got the opportunity to be the head referee at the Europro's at Concra Woode, in Ireland, and at Rowallan Castle, on the West coast of Scotland.

In between that I spent a week coaching at the R&A Swing Zone which was set up at the Open Championship and to finish off the season I caddied during the Dunhill Links Championship at Kingsbarns .

So, all in all, it's been a very busy summer. Looking forward to a little break before completing my PGA Level 3 Coaching qualification.

The Open Championship 2013

posted 9 Aug 2013, 07:31 by Nicola Melville

The 2013 Open Championship was a great success. I was part of a team of 20 coaches who coached at the R&A Swing Zone, located within the tented village, and I gave around 90 free fifteen minute lessons to members of the public over the course of four very busy days at Muirfield.

We received some fantastic feedback from those who received lessons.  Everything from ‘phenomenal’ to ‘amazing’ was heard as people were leaving the swingzone after their lesson.

I will coaching at the R&A swing zone at the Open Championship which is at Muirfield this year. I will be giving free 15 minute lessons from Tuesday 16th July to Saturday 20th July.

Alison White, assistant director of golf development at The R&A, said: "The R&A Swing Zone is a unique opportunity for golfing enthusiasts to benefit from world-class tuition in what is always a hugely popular event."

Tunisia Golf Festival 2013

posted 19 Feb 2013, 05:10 by Nicola Melville   [ updated 19 Feb 2013, 05:11 ]

Having just arrived back from the Tunisian Golf Festival, I thought I would write a little report on my time there.

Before now, I have to admit that Tunisia wasn't a place that I had thought of going to but upon arrival my opinion of the place soon changed. We stayed at the Sentido Phenicia Hotel in Hammamet. The hospitality we received from staff was excellent, with nothing being too much trouble for them.

We played 5 rounds of golf during the week. 3 at Citrus Golf Club and 2 at the Yasmin Course. The La Foret Course at Citrus Golf was my favourite of the 3 we played, with tree lined fairways and many interesting holes.

On Friday afternoon we were entertained by David Edwards with his trick shot show. His ability to play spectacular shots was inspirational but also made many of us feel rather silly when we tried them ourselves!

As a co-organiser, I am pleased to announce the launch of the Scottish Ladies Open Tour, sponsored by the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre.

The PLGC Scottish Ladies Open Tour (SLOT) is a mini golf tour based in Scotland set up with the aim of acting as a 'stepping stone' to the main Ladies European Tour. It is open to all female professionals and to single figure handicap female amateurs who want to measure their ability against the professionals.

The 2012 Scottish Golf Show was a great success. I gave around 70 fifteen minute lessons to members of the public over the course of three very busy days at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh.

There were many exhibitors and stands, including a stand where members of the public could get their picture taken with the Ryder Cup, which will be held at Gleneagles in 2014. Photos are posted here

Below is a link to the radio 4 program which talks about this years show and has an interview with Colin Montgomorie.
